Discover Kempen on the Lower Rhine

The Kurkölnische Landesburg, the Medieval Cow Gate and the Old City Wall are among many other sights, which you can discover during a tour of the old town.

The citizens are proud of their city with many half-timbered houses and patrician houses, and call Kempen the "Pearl of the Lower Rhine".

Walking through the streets and lanes of the old town, you will experience a special atmosphere of history and the modern. Restored buildings as well as new houses fit lovingly into the image of the old town.

Sights and Landmarks

The Cultural Forum Franciscan Monastery houses the Kramer Museum as well as the Museum for Lower-Rhine Sacred Art, which is well known well beyond the borders of Kempen.

The probably most famous Kempener was the mystic "Thomas von Kempen", also known as "Thomas a Kempis" (ca. 1380 - 1471). His book "The Succession of Christ" is world-renowned and translated into many languages.

The center of the town is the Buttermarket, where you can experience Mediterranean atmosphere in nice weather. The wide range of gastronomy offers you various possibilities of culinary delights.
