In the winter

In the cold season the region of Lower Rhine develops its special charm. Perhaps you want to escape from your everyday stress for a few days and seek rest and relaxation. Long walks in fresh air bring a distinctive landscape closer to you, no matter whether foggy, frosty or snowy. A variety of farmers' cafes then invite to coffee and cake, but also to more substantial meals. From our apartments, you can also enjoy great day trips in the winter time.

St. Martin

A highlight on November 10th, is the Kempener St. Martin parade. About 2,000 children are singing through the city with their self-made torches accompanied by numerous music bands. The finale is a spectacular fireworks display at Kurkölnisches Landesburg. On this special day, the traditional pastry of the Kempener is the "Püfferchen". Very popular after the St. Martinszug is also a meal of roast goose.

Kempener Markets and Concerts, Ice skating in Grefrath

The Christmas market, which takes place annually on all weekends in December, is well known beyond the borders of Kempen and is visited by many Dutch neighbors. In the streets and alleys of the Old Town, you can stroll in Christmas atmosphere. The smell of mulled wine, pastry and fries is surrounding you.

Two flea markets with flying traders and full of surprises are the "Halbfastenmarkt" in March, and the "Hubertusmarkt" in November.

Remarkable Organ concerts by well-known organists regularly take place in the Paterskirche (church), which is part of the Franciscan monastery, and the Probsteikirche (church).

In the nearby Grefrather ice rink, three ice-skating areas, such as an ice rink, a covered outdoor area and a 400 m outdoor ice rink, excite every ice skater.
